Kaizen Aquatics is run by certified NCAP swimming instructor, Bernard Tay. He holds an Honours Degree in Physical Education and Sports Science with from The Nanyang Technological University of Singapore (NTU). During his undergraduate studies, he did a double major in Exercise Physiology and Sports Management.

He is also an accredited coach with the National Registration of Coaches (NROC). In addition, he is also a qualified lifeguard with a bronze medallion from the Singapore lifesaving association and a certified first aider from the Singapore Red Cross. To compliment his coaching practice, has attained his certification as a Sports Massage Therapist from Singapore Sports Council and accreditation as a FISAF (Federation of International Sports, Aerobics and Fitness) qualified personal trainer and exercise specialist. Bernard is also a trained secondary school teacher, formerly working with the Ministry of Education (Singapore) as a Physical Education Teacher.

Since 2001, Bernard has also taken part in numerous multisport races and is an avid triathlete. To date, he has completed 6 Ironman races, 10 Half-Ironman races, and numerous others races. In 2008 Bernard also competed in the five stage Tour of Egat (currently called Tour of Friendship) in Thailand.

During his school years, Bernard represented both his school (Anglo-Chinese School), University, Swimming Club and Country at various national and international swimming competitions.

After entering into national service, Bernard continued to represent his military unit, the Commandos in swimming, water polo, biathlons and triathlon competitions. In addition, he was also appointed as the swimming coach for the commando swimming team from 2005-2006 and the swim coach for the commando multisport team in 2012.

Besides coaching, Bernard also is an avid touring cyclist; he enjoys going to different countries to ride and frequently organizes cycling trips to various countries in Southeast Asia. Over the last few years he has circumnavigated in the eastern and western coastline of Malaysia and rode through countries such as Laos, Thailand and Indonesia.

Bernard looks forward to sharing his experiences, love and passion for swimming with anyone who is keen to pick up this sport or who wants to improve their strokes.
